‘The angry judge, ambition-less Metuh, village protesters…’ | 4 memorable quotes from yesterday

Here are our top 4 quotes of yesterday – courtesy of Olisa Metuh, Justice Danladi Umar, Ayuba Wabba and Comrade Udengs Eradiri.

1. The angry judge

Justice Danladi Umar Danladi informs Kanu Agabi, the lead defence lawyer in the prosecution of Bukola Saraki, that one of the legion of lawyers in the team – Raphael Oluyede – would have been sent to prison to cool his feet, after defying the Code of Conduct Tribunal Chairman and arguing with him.

“I have said I will not listen to that motion. I would have sent him to prison for contempt in the face of the court. He was arguing with me. I would have sent him to prison. He would have been cooling his feet there now. Maybe from there, he will be taken to another place. It was because other colleagues begged for him that I allowed him to be sitting there now.”

2. The hired protesters

During a visit to the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, – the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba, said it is pathetic that corrupt Nigerians who are facing trial are hiring protesters.

“We have a situation where people, who have stolen from the commonwealth and are being prosecuted in court, go to their villages to hire people that they take to court to protest on their behalf, just because they have the resources at their disposal.”

3. Vandals have masters

The IYC president, Comrade Udengs Eradiri, reacts to President Muhammadu Buahri’s statement – that pipeline vandals will be treated like Boko Haram insurgents.

“Buhari’s proposed attack is against those below the ladder. Why don’t they focus on investigating and arresting sponsors located in Abuja and other corridors of power? Those behind the pipeline vandals are in the military and the National Assembly.”

4. Ambitionless Metuh

The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, on said he no longer has the ambition to continue to serve his party in an official capacity.

“As one of the founding members of this party, the longest serving member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and currently a critical player in the party, my supporters and admirers expect me to contest and this has spurred speculations in the media. However, I wish to state publicly that I have no ambitions to continue as a member of the National Working Committee after the expiration of my current tenure as the National Publicity Secretary, a decision that is enjoying the support of my family.”
