#OndoDecides: Voting has begun, PDP candidate held by security agents, pockets of violence recorded

by Isi Esene

The voting in Ondo State continues to progress peacefully except for some pockets of violence reported in some areas of the state.

There are rumours of ballot-box snatching in some areas like Okitipupa but nothing has been officially confirmed. Several party agents have been reported arrested by security agents for bribing voters in a bid to induce them into voting for certain candidates in the election.

The Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Olusola Oke was said to have been held briefly by security agents as he drove into the Igbotako area of the State in a convoy. Oke was held for about an hour before being released.

Paul Akintelure, the running mate to the Action Congress of Nigeria candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu, cast his ballot around 2pm at his polling unit as the voting proper gets underway.

There are also unconfirmed reports that Idanre is gradually degenerating into chaos as the security presence in the area has gradually fizzled out. Witnesses say thugs suspected to be affiliated with the Labour Party are snatching ballot-boxes and scaring away legitimate voters with dangerous weapons.

The voters are patiently waiting for the intervention of police officers before the situation further degenerates.
