You know how we try to figure out people’s statuses before we decide how to treat or relate to them? Yes, you do. Abi, are you not Nigerian?
Anyway, in #TheThread of Kelechi Anabaraonye V Lagos Photo Festival, Kelechi has tabled how distasteful this attitude is. Interesting read we tell you:
There's one annoying thing about Nigeria. Elitism. In so many areas of life in this country. It's really distasteful.

I won't fail to mention the @LagosPhotoFest which I mailed, and have been ignored for over how many months. What are they trying to say?
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
That their mailing system isn't functioning or what? The person in charge suddenly became blind at the sight of my mail?
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
It's rather unfortunate that we have allowed this elitism thrive in our society. I mailed you, enquiring on how I can…
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
Participate at the upcoming photo festival, months before this October we are in, and what do I get? Ignored !
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
What are you people trying to say? @LagosPhotoFest that my work might not be suitable or? When you haven't even seen what I have to offer.
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
It's very disgusting that I even commented on your IG page and I got ignored, three times or thereabout @LagosPhotoFest
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
I commented redirecting you to the mail I sent to you lots months ago, which you have probably opened and ignored.
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
because you people cannot tell me you didn't see my mail. You people disgust me !!!!!!
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
you want your festival to thrive yet you cannot make room for innovation? Young minds? I don't need your workshop..
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
it's not the platform am asking for, I am enquiring on the main festival. How to get my work featured, yet you lots ignore.
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
you obviously get the same people every year and you expect us to applaud the festival's cause? NO !
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
you guys kept on posting pictures on your IG? Your channel of communication is poor and rather unfortunate.
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
if you don't need people to showcase their work, don't out up the fact that your festival is around the corner bcos obv..
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
people, young creatives will want to get on the platform to showcase their work or artistry.
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
you can't tell me you didn't see my comments or maybe if it's not there, it's been deleted. Because I know how many times
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
I commented trying to let you lots know I mailed, an enquiry
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
but because you don't want to see my face during your festival as a showcasing artist, you choose to ignore my mail.
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
and comments.
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
I wouldn't like to see white people's work during the festival. It's "Lagos photo festival", in my country again.
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
and then you choose to favour a foreigner over me? You lots didn't even reply my mail. Such arrogance !
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
you people will need me one day ! I bet you. You will need my work ! And it won't be accessible. Rubbish !
— ka (@kelechinaba) October 3, 2016
If you didn’t know, Lagos Photo Festival is an annual event popular within the Arts and Culture circle in Nigeria. It run by Azu Nwagbogu that feature. It’s one of those really major Lagos events where you find the ‘cool kids’ in and around Eko Hotels. But the more serious part of it is the exhibition that showcases both local and international photographers.
@LagosPhotoFest is yet to respond so it is hard to tell whether this is just a case of angry follower or an artist seeking attention? Or is @LagosPhotoFest really projecting the elitist behaviour many Nigerians exhibit?
