This is how long the wives of late Ooni of Ife will have to mourn

The wives of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, are expected to mourn his death for 1 year.

A member of the late monarch’s family revealed that the wives, usually called Oloris, will be in mourning mode for 12 months, as a mark of respect for their deceased husband.

The Ooni’s wives are- Morisola, Ladun, Odunayo, Adedolapo and Linda.

The family member reportedly said that Ife tradition prevents the wives of the late Ooni, from speaking to the press or make public appearances, until the 1 year anniversary has been marked.

“The wives cannot talk to the press within one year of the monarch’s death. They cannot even attend flamboyant parties or events. There’s nothing the wives can do about that.

“After six months of mourning, the wives can attend low-key parties organised by close relatives. The family member has to be very close for the wives to attend.”
