The worst part of the campaign to tarnish Buhari’s image is the one recently plotted by associating his candidature with the power rotation imposed by PDP between north and south where the commercial commentators are busy pointing that if Buhari loss in 2015 then North should forget about presidency in near future.

Since the time General Muhammadu Buhari was lobbied and convinced to venture into mainstream politics by those who have Nigeria at heart and wish the country’s poor citizens well, corrupt and dubious citizens always go to bed with one of their eyes open for the fear that the disciplined and incorruptible man may be the country’s number one citizen.

Various media campaigns were launched against Buhari ranging from blackmailing, deliberate misquote or misrepresentation in other to portray him as a tribalist, religious fanatic or regional bigot which turned out to be a show of ignorance and sentiments of the perpetrators in the face of Nigerian citizen who were desperately looking for a messiah that will save the country in the hand of greedy and selfish leaders that has been diverting the nation’s resources into private pockets. Little wonder an American Report reveals that 95% of the country’s resources is enjoyed by only 3% of its population.

Before the merger of the opposition parties into APC, commercial commentators and writers were heavily paid by corrupt elites to portray Buhari as a fanatic who sees himself as a gift from God to Nigerians for being morally superior since he refused to join them in bringing Nigeria down to her knee. They said Buahri refused to consult them and involved them in his political affairs because he regarded them as corrupt. So they decide to quote Karl Marx and make reference to him where Marxism said “Politics is beyond good intention, in politics you must form alliance with the devil to achieve the cause” knowing that they are devils and Buhari’s presidency is a salvation to Nigeria.

After APC was formed and its leaders paid courtesy visits to prominent Nigerians perceived by ordinary citizens as corrupt (while those in the political circle see them as power brokers or at best election manipulators) commercial commentators continued their campaign saying the merger was done in favor of Buhari to realize his long agitated presidential ambition and with the visitation of APC leaders to Alpha and Omega of Nigerian politics he (Buhari) has compromised his principles and strict ideology therefore has lost the moral back ground to be regarded as clean and incorruptible person that can clear the mess by previous administration and lay solid foundation for future Nigeria. They say this simply because he was among those that paid visit to former leaders but no one pointed a finger or raise his voice to the likes of Bisi Akande or Bola Tinubu.

Recently the whole world mourned the passing away of Nelson Mandela who became South Africa’s president at the age of 75. While the commercial commentators are busy campaigning that Buhari is too old to contest for Nigerian presidency and suggesting that it will be better if he retires and become a king maker than becoming the king himself, they forget that the Madiba was older than Buhari when he became president. They never fail to mention the likes of Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano state and Isa Yuguda of Bauchi who got the people’s mandate under the Buhari’s political wind, but later turned to be working against his principles and ideologies. I bet if you where in his shoes, you will not try that again at national level because those he crowned threw dust to his eyes.

From Nigeria’s Independence till date, Nigerians always celebrate regional leaders or tribal champions, those that transformed their tribal union or regional association into political party and end up aligning themselves politically to such people whenever they are in need of support from their people. With all this on ground, the commercial commentators are busy describing Buhari as a regional champion who enjoyed only grassroot northern support. You can’t stop to wonder when the likes of late Sen. Chuba Okadigbo, Prof. David West, …… etc became northerners. To limit his popularity among Nigerians, they went on to say even in the north its only Muslim that support him. Maybe soon, they will identify him with a certain religion sect as his only supporters. Simply because they can’t see beyond their nose they restricted every person to their horizon. With the sensitization campaign currently going on across the length and breadth of the country and the strong need of messiah that will save the country from collapsing, the popularity and acceptance of Buhari can be only compared to that of June 12 winner, Mashood Abiola of blessed memory.

The worst part of the campaign to tarnish Buhari’s image is the one recently plotted by associating his candidature with the power rotation imposed by PDP between north and south where the commercial commentators are busy pointing that if Buhari loss in 2015 then North should forget about presidency in near future. Their myopic view never fail to amaze me because when Buhari first contested in 2003 with Obasanjo a Yoruba from the south, no one expressed such bigoted view; likewise in 2007 when he contested along side a fellow northerner from same state. Buhari’s candidature has nothing to do with region, religion or tribe, His aspiration was born out of patriotism and selfless service to the humanity. Anything on the contrary cannot find space in the agenda of General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.). Its therefore a call for all well-meaning and broad-minded Nigerians looking for a competent candidate that will resuscitate Nigeria to join Buhari’s campaign train which is free from prejudice and bigotry.

  1. If APC want to build a strong opporsition that can compet with the ruling party, Buhari's ambition and that of the North should put aside then any compactable candidate that can gain the support of Nigerian masses for good governance and true democracy who will give no room for regional, tribal or religious difference.
