Oyato! Jubilation on the streets of Benin despite rain

by Hauwa Gambo

The people of Edo State feel like break-dancing – and there’s no stopping them, not even with downpours.

As their governor, Adams Oshiomhole was declared winner of yesterday’s elections earlier today, the people of Benin stepped onto the streets to celebrate the coming of a second term, pouring out in the hundreds.

“There is no other evidence to show that the heavens agreed with the earth that the change must come for the people”, Kingsley Udera, told Premium Times.

“It is not by mere coincidence that throughout the period the elections held there were no serious natural incidents like rain to disrupt its smooth conduct.

“The rains pouring out shortly after the results were announced shows that the gods of the land have sanctioned the change that have come for the people and have sent the rains to help wash away for good the politics of godfatherism, division, hatred and corruption from the state,” he added.

Oshiomhole will reporterdly be addressing a World Press Conference later today.

Let it rain, Comrade!
