Patience Jonathan writes House of Reps over EFCC’s “incessant harassment”

Wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience Jonathan has written a petition to the House of Representatives urging it to stop the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from further  “harassment”.

The petition was read to the house on Wednesday by Lovette Idisi, a legislator from Delta state.

“This petition is in line with section 36 where every citizen is presumed innocent until proven guilty,” the legislator said.

“Mr. Speaker, here is a petition on the constant harassment of the former first lady. It was sent to my office. With the leave of the house, I seek your permission to lay the petition before the house.”

Speaker of the house, Yakubu Dogara referred the petition to the committee of public petitions.

Mrs. Jonathan had claimed ownership of $31.4 million frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

She had also approached the court urging it to order the EFCC to unfreeze the accounts.
