R&B singer, Paul I.K. Dairo has sued telecommunications company, Etisalat, for allegedly infringing on his copyright, according to reports.

The law suit against Etisalat is for the unauthorized use of his 2009 hit-track, “Mosorire”ny the company for its reality show, Nigerian idol for two years with no remuneration of any sort.

Dairo is demanding for N200m compansation and has petitioned Justice C.J. Aneke of the Federal High court, to make it happen.

According to an affidavit filed in support of his suit and deposed to by himself, Paul said, “I am the copyright owner of the work named and tagged “Mosorire”, contained in my repertoire, exclusively for the jurisdiction of Nigeria and the authority or permission to exploit such work can only be obtained from me.”

“However, the defendants being an organiser of a television reality show tagged, “Nigerian Idol” caused the use, adaptation and deployment of my said work titled, “Mosorire” on the said show without my consent, and which was broadcast to several millions of television viewers throughout the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the rest of Africa for 2012 and 2013 editions.”

The artiste grouse is that the service provider used his song, hence, he should have been paid N100m which is what he is is entitled to, especially since the company gained from the popularity and commercial impact of the music.
