Poetry: You’re in love but he beats you …RUN!!!

by Soyombo Ayomikun

1.Of Nneka
I once heard
Whose rich husband
Always rages
Like a demon let loose
From hell.
He bleeds her
At night
And spoils her
During the day.
Family and
Friends told her
To run
But she clung on
To wealth and
Terror.
Eventually the night came
When her skull
Got crushed and her mouth
Could no longer open
To swallow
Wealth.
2.Only an animal
Beats another to
Pass across a message,
Only a monster
Beats a woman
Just to make her realise his
‘Superiority’.

3.If he has slapped you
Before
Chances are very high
That he will slap you again
When tomorrow
Comes.
If he has chased you
With a knife
Before,
That knife may be buried
And forgotten in your chest tomorrow
If you don’t run
Today!

4.Don’t for his cute face
Or money
Overlook the tantrums
That may mop up the
Life in you.
Don’t bury your
Head
In the chest
That will pummel you
To a pulp
Crushing your beauty
And dreams.
Run
While you can!

5.Love wholly
But sensibly,
Trust all the way
But not beyond the rational lane,
Scream out when
You can
Once you begin to see
Terror in the eyes you once
Loved.
No time is late
To gather the shattered pieces
Of your past
While you are still
Breathing.
RUN!!!
