10 security operatives were shot earlier today in Damaturu, Yobe state. The victims were one mobile police officer and nine soldiers, in the attack which took place around the Shagari housing area in the state.
The incident was confirmed by State Police Command spokesperson, Toyin Gbadegeshin who revealed that the gunmen had been waiting for the victims. “The gunmen laid ambush on a security patrol team using explosive devices around Shagari low cost housing area,” he said. “There were also gunshots reported around the ‘A’ division police station,” he added, stating that more information was being gotten. “We are still working to collect the details of the incident,” he said.
This comes just a day after a convoy of the Yobe State Deputy Governor was mistakenly shot at by a policeman at a checkpoint in Maisandari in Damaturu. “The vehicle was at some distance from the Deputy Governor’s convey,” said Police commissioner Patrick Egbuniwe. “This made the police officer suspect them and eventually shot to stop them. We later discovered that it was an SSS vehicle.”
