@PoliceNG DPO arrested for raping woman in his office

A Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Oladipo Afolayan, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly raping a woman in his office.

Afolayan, a Superintendent of Police, who was recently posted to the Magodo Police Station, allegedly raped the woman, who was a suspect in an ongoing investigation.

After the victim reported the rape, Afolayan was arrested and brought before the Commissioner of Police, Cornelius Aderanti.

The matter has reportedly been transferred to the X-Squad, a department at the state command which is in charge of investigating police crimes and misdemeanours.

After taking his statement, the X Squad would also transfer the DPO and the case file to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The Police spokesperson, Mr. Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed that the police were investigating the matter.

He said, “Yes, we are investigating an allegation like that. As a result of the sensitivity of the matter, it would be too soon to come to a conclusion. The stance of the Commissioner of Police is not to condone any act of indiscipline whether from the public or from our men.”

“Therefore, when investigations are concluded, and the officer is found culpable, he will be made to dance to the tune of the law, and if it is found otherwise, he will be cleared. The press will be invited and briefed once investigations are concluded.”

  1. I’m sorry but the caption to this story and the story itself do not tally. The Heading says he was arrested for raping, that’s conclusive. But the story says investigations are still on going. I’m not here to support rape, but if this story turns out to be false, do you know the stigma the accused will face?

I sincerely do not appreciate this brand of journalism where any story goes as long as it gets the desired audience. The Law says everyone is innocent until proven otherwise but we have already passed judgement on the accused. Can we let the X-squad do their job before we go to town with deceitful information. Thank you.
