Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the vice President has just arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to inspect the ongoing reconstruction work on the runway that started on the 8th of March this year.

The last time the Vice President went on this kind of inspection at an airport, it was in Lagos; at the Muritala Muhammed Airport in order for him to ensure first hand that the facilities and staff were acting right. This was at the beginning of the 60-day timeline set by the FG to help put in place all the required structures to guarantee the ease of doing business in Nigeria, something the Federal Government has been working hard at as part of its economic recovery plan.

The Abuja Airport is no different. With the additional motivation that the runway truly needed fixing as the maintenance was already overdue by at least 30 years according to reports.

The rehabilitation going on at the airport should be almost complete by now given the 6-week timeline promised by the Ministry of Aviation. And Remember: The Minister assured last week that rehabilitation was already 75 percent done.

All we are saying is that we suspect (scratch that: we hope) this inspection was unscheduled and maybe some drastic and needed disciplinary action will get handed down after the inspection as was the case in Lagos.

It’s not over yet though. Both the airport and the inspection. So we guess we’ll see.
