Press Secretary Sean Spicer is searching for his White House replacement

Press secretary Sean Spicer is at the forefront in the search for a candidate to replace him on the briefing podium at the Whit House, before a major White House communications operations shake up.

According to reports, Spicer and the White House chief of staff Reince Priebus already contacted Laura Ingraham, a Fox News contributor about the role of press secretary and David Martosko, Daily Mail editor about the role of communications director.

Both Ingraham and Martosko are yet to comment on the issue.  The search became paramount for the White House communications team after communications director Mike Dubke resigned from last month, making Spicer assume dual roles as the White House faces several scandals.

President Trump was reportedly unhappy about the way Spicer and Dubke handled the response in the hours following the firing of FBI Director James Comey. The White House has since stopped daily on-camera press briefings, instead Spicer and deputy White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders have been conducting gaggles with  no cameras and no audio.

Sanders on Monday confirmed the White House was interviewed possible candidates for a new communications team.

“We have sought input from many people as we look to expand our communications operation,” Sanders said. “As he did in the beginning, Sean Spicer is managing both the communications and press office”. And as Spicer interviews job candidates, he has been pushing to transition into a new role more senior to both the communications director and press secretary.

An official at the White house said that “Spicer should be elevated and if he’s not, I would not blame him for leaving. The president owes him this much for all he’s done for him. Sean is indispensable and I think the president knows that.”
