House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was at the receiving end of a huge confrontation by angry protesters in San Francisco on Monday for tentatively signing a deal with President Trump over a program to extend legal protections to young undocumented immigrants, FOX news reports.
Pelosi was in her home city to ramp support for the legislation that would protect young immigrants called Dreamers who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children or by parents who overstayed visas.
The group of protesters while shouting at Pelosi called her a liar prompting her to cut off her scheduled news conference short.
In response, Pelosi told the group, “You don’t know what you’re talking about, It’s clear you don’t want any answers.” And at a point, she said “Just stop it”, leaving the event whilst telling reporters that “the Protesters don’t want the Dream Act.”
President Trump recently announced the winding down of the program Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) but expressed his willingness to work around an alternative with increased border security during meetings with Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer.
Meanwhile, the deal upon which the protesters staged their confrontation had since been rebuffed by President Trump.
