Protesting youth attack Oba, chase him out of palace in Ekiti

Recurrent deaths in Emure community, Ekiti State has caused the youths to go after the the traditional ruler of the town, Oba Emmanuel Adebowale Adebayo pushing him out of his palace yesterday, new reports claim.

It is believed that the angry youths had previously requested audience with the monarch to proffer solution over the strange deaths of about 12 youths in the last two weeks but were ignored.

Chairman of Emure Local Government Area, Adewale Febisola, confirmed the incident and urged to the aggrieved youths to give peace a chance.

Adebayo who is an ex-police commissioner was allegedly pelted with sachet waters, while youths made a bonfire along the roads linking the palace.

Also reports that some chiefs who were spotted in attendance during the encounter removed their beads and took to their heels, fleeing the palace.

The protesters then reportedly went into major streets in the town, marching up to the main market.

According to reports, Febisola a newly sworn in council boss assured that the traditional council in the area would meet and proffer solution to the problem.

The Public Relations Officer of Ekiti State Police Command, Victor Olu Babayemi confirmed that the police were already working to handle problem saying they prevented further attack on the monarch in the palace and are ensuring peace around the town.

The police are said to be currently guarding the palace while Oba Adebayo is believed to have relocated to his private residence within the community.
