Ramadan fast to continue until new moon is sighted in Nigeria

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has said that Muslims in the country will continue their Ramadan fast on Tuesday as the new moon has not yet been sighted as at Monday night.

The Federal Government on Thursday last week had declared Tuesday and Wednesday to be public holidays in the country in anticipation of the end of the fasting period.

This new development however means that Wednesday, July 6, will be the eid-el-fitr day

The NSCIA had initially expected to sight the moon between Sunday and Monday before the new announcement.

Sa’ad Abubakar III, the NSCIA president-general, announced on Monday night that Nigeria had not seen the new moon of Shawwal and therefore asked Muslims to observe the eid-prayers on Wednesday.
