While you were gearing up to reap the fruits of the resurrection of Christ – or simply binge of chocolate-filled Easter eggs, if that’s what Easter means to you – President Trump pulled another one of his epic stunts.
He announced on Friday that his administration will no longer follow the usual practice of releasing the visitor’s log for the White House. Trump does not want you to know who goes in and out of his White House. Not anymore.
Former Presidents made it a point to release visitor’s logs as often as possible. In fact, President Obama (despite having resisted a bit, at first) released names of nearly 6 million visitors’ via a dedicated website including all those who visited for the purpose of lobbying.
Releasing the names of White House visitors is important to Americans because it helps them make sense of those who influenced the decisions that come out of the White House.
But that’s not the interesting part of this story. The same Trump that has decided to shroud his visitors in secrecy had once posted tweets to condemn President Obama for lack of transparency:
All recent Presidents have released their transcripts. What is @BarackObama hiding?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 10, 2012
Why is @BarackObama spending millions to try and hide his records? He is the least transparent President–ever–and he ran on transparency.

A lot of undecided and independent voters have had enough with Obama’s lack of transparency. I don't blame them.

Why does Obama believe he shouldn't comply with record releases that his predecessors did of their own volition? Hiding something?

Yeah, Donald Trump. “Hiding something?”
