Rejoinder: Dear Adene, in Ondo State, Mimiko is Making A Difference (MAD)

by Olusola Akinbinu

Reading an opinion by one Gbenga Adene on YNaija, June 28, 2016, Titled: “The Madness of Nigerian Governors; case study of Mimiko”. One must be pained with the quality of the mind of the writer, and if there are more persons who think like him, then the future of this country is bleak. Many persons had shown concerns that the quality of education in Nigeria is not adequate and results of that around today, is when you see youths who cannot comprehend government programes and policies, who do not understand the effect of social infrastructures, their long term benefits and how citizens can take advantage of them to improve their lives, and add to the productivity of the state, and the aggregate National productivity. When such youths feel frustrated because they can find no place to accommodate their intellectual inadequacies in the economic society and its value chain, it is simply psychological that they retaliate by attacking everyone and everything they see around. The reasons being that they lack the required quality for reasonable judgement, Our schools still have a lot to do, certificates alone are not enough.

At a period in history, when researchers all over the world are coming to the conclusion that what would drive the economies in the coming decades are not “Earth-bound resources” but “Mind-bound resources” or to put in clearer terms, ARTS AND INTELLECTUAL RESOURCES. Everyone is seeing what Nollywood and the Music Industry is adding to the GDP of Nigeria, it became clearer after the rebasing in 2013 where all other economic indices where factored.

It is not the day you give birth to a child that he starts bringing income to the family, even if he is genius. In the whole of South west Nigeria, Ondo State now has an ultra- modern, consecutive halls, that can handle 4 independent events without interference, all with state of the art facilities and some people who cannot see the future of it,  rushed to press to describe that as “Madness”? I think inadequate education is to blame. Don’t be surprised, he may even be a university “graduate”, but of what quality?

The facility called Dome, will produce the next Ogundes’, Duro Ladipos’ Musical giants etc. And it is positioning Ondo as the next tourist destination of  choice among others

He wrote that Dr. Mimiko met a treasury of N38billion in February 2009 and is he is owing 5 months salary in June 2016, that he could not see the link. It is advised that our youths should get educated enough to see themselves in positions of similar responsibility tomorrow and not just be pawns in the hands of malicious politicians who are just scheming, but know the truth. For the knowledge of Mr Adene. It is of no benefit that your family needs housing and clothing but you are saving money in the bank at the expense of their welfare. If you take care of them, they will care for the house when you are weak, even better than saving. The infrastructural deficits in a sub Saharan African society like Ondo State requires more than N500 billion. Never in the history of Ondo state had we had any primary school that can contend with any in Europe, today, we have 51 Mega Schools and still counting, which other states are now copying.

At this juncture, it is important to let you know that recently the Yahaya Bello APC-led Kogi state Government came to understudy Gov Mimiko’s giant strides one of which made his the second Nigerian to receive the United Nations Habitat Scroll of Honor Awards for making Ondo the best run state in Nigeria.

We have additional 6 dualized roads throughout the state, and over 50 new roads. (I can provide details, if demanded)

A woman does not want to deliver in America, and her husband starts scampering for money all about. Ondo State started similar scheme in Akure,  and its spreading, with qualified medical professional and state of the art tertiary institutions. This has reduced infant and maternal mortality by 70 percent in just 5 years. To help your ignorance and intellectual bankruptcy, the program is called Abiye Safe motherhood – adopted by the World Bank for solving Africa’s embarrassingly high infant and maternal mortality

Mr Adene mentioned that Ondo does not need a University of Medical Sciences. Hmmmmm? Even the genius asks questions but the self-afflicted ignorant puffs in his disease. Ondo State has a University of Medical Sciences with a grand design to kick start in an environment that aids the theme of the institution, and planned to run itself independent of the finances of the State. Teachers in that University are not owed salaries because they are not paid from Federal allocations as other institutions in the state. With that institution, in another 10 years, Ondo State is expected to produce more doctors and Medical professionals to efficiently run its health institutions that have been described as second to none in the country. All that your mind could capture is a possible negative.

Well, for Gbenga Adene, you can only see what your mind conceives, if you always conceive negative of every development, you will live a negative life, mind you, it doesn’t stop the citizens of Ondo State from progressing and taking advantage of the opportunities already provided by the government of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.
