‘Release Jonathan’s cousin immediately’ – Court orders EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has been ordered to immediately release Azibaola Robert, a cousin of former President, Goodluck Jonathan.

An Abuja High Court, sitting at Maitama, on Thursday, ruled in favour of the release of Robert, who has been in detention since March 23.

Robert’s lawyer, Chris Uche (SAN), had approached the High Court for the enforcement of his client’s fundamental human rights.

He was arrested by the anti-graft agency over his alleged involvement in the illegal diversion of $40 million that was meant for the security of oil pipelines.

Jonathan’s cousin was alleged to have diverted the funds through a firm, One-Plus Holdings, a sister company of Kakatar Construction and Engineering Company Limited.

According to the EFCC, $40 million was released to Robert and the firm by the embattled former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd).
