BREAKING: Reverend King to die by hanging, Supreme Court says

The Supreme Court, on Friday, affirmed the decision of a lower court on the death sentence passed on the General-Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly, Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, a.k.a Reverend King.

The unanimous decision was reached by a panel of seven, led by Justice Walter Onnoghen.

The court in dismissing King’s appeal against an earlier decision by a Lagos state High Court, affirmed that he is to die by hanging.

Delivering its judgement, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta stated that: “The ‎facts of the case could have been lifted from horror film.”

“This appeal has no merit. The judgement of the court of appeal is hereby affirmed. The prison sentence that was earlier handed to the appellant is no longer relevant in view of the death sentence passed on him.”

Reverend King was in January 11, 2007, sentenced to death by hanging over the murder of his church member, Ann Uzoh in 2006.

He was later sentenced to 20 years in prison for attempted murder and death by hanging, for murder.

King appealed to the Court of Appeal to upturn his sentence, he lost. He approached the supreme court to upturn the decision, and lost again.
