#RioOlympics: We deserved to lose against Germany – Siasia, Mikel

Coach of the National Under-23 team Samson Siasia and captain Mikel Obi have said that Nigeria did not deserve to win against Germany as the Europeans were the better side on the night.

Two goals in both half secured victory for Germany in Wednesday’s semi finals.

Siasia expressed his disappointed at his team’s profligacy in front of goal.

Siasia said, “I am disappointed. Even we had chances, we couldn’t score. The German team did better.

“It is a shame but we don’t deserve to stay in the final playing like that.”

Mikel said, “We didn’t play well. We don’t deserve to be in the final.”

The Chelsea midfielder expressed optimism that the team can still secure the bronze medal when they face Honduras on Saturday.

“We are professional players and hopefully we can win a medal,” he said.

The Under-23 team seems to be Nigeria’s only hope of winning a medal at Rio Olympics.

Nigeria won gold at the Atlanta ’96 Olympics and silver at Beijing 2008.
