A herd of 150 cows have been stolen by cattle theives in Canaan Mega Farms in Bara Village, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Chairman of the council, Dan Amos, disclosed this development to newsmen on Friday, at the Jagindi Police Station, where it was reported that 33 of the cows have been recovered.

It was also revealed that the recovery came as a result of a chase by a combined team of the police and the military.

Premium Times reports:

Mr. Amos said that the incident occurred in the late hours of Thursday when the suspects stormed the farm belonging to late former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Luka Yusuf in Bara Village.

“The suspects were reported to be dressed in full military uniform and armed with sophisticated weapons.

“Although no life was lost, the security men at the farms were molested,’’ he said.

The chairman said he received a distress call around 1 a.m. and he immediately contacted the police and the military who swung into action.

He said that the 33 cattle recovered were found in a thick forest along Jagindi on the border with Nasarawa State.

Amos lamented increasing incidences of cattle rustling in the area, saying, “only two weeks ago, 67 cattle were stolen in this area.’’

He said that the council was determined to put an end to recurring cattle theft and urged the people to report any suspected persons to the security agencies.
