As Russian investigation gets hotter, Trump’s VP Mike Pence hires personal lawyer

Vice President Mike Pence seems to be bracing himself for something big, as he has hired external legal counsel to oversee his response to investigations into possible collusion between Moscow and Trump’s 2016 campaign.

Guardian reports that the office of the Vice President confirmed, Thursday that he had retained the chairman of McGuire Woods LLP Richard Cullen, to assist him in responding to inquiries by the special counsel. Spokesman Jarrod Agen said in a statement  “The vice president is focused entirely on his duties and promoting the president’s agenda and looks forward to a swift conclusion of this matter”.

According to Cullen’s  official biography, he previously served as attorney general for Virginia and US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. He has also served as a member of former President George W. Bush’s legal team during the 2000 Florida recount and as special counsel to Virginia Senator Paul Trible during the Iran-Contra investigation

The Vice President’s decision comes several weeks after Trump hired his own longtime personal attorney, Marc Kasowitz, to handle all Russia-related inquiries.
