‘Secular artistes lack anointing to perform in churches’ – Sammie Okposo

Sammie Okposo, a leading gospel musician, has frowned on the trend of inviting secular artistes to minister in churches.

The debate about this controversial issue reared its head last year when Mavin singer, Korede Bello, was invited to sing his inspirational song – Godwin – in several churches.

Sammie, however, believes “it is totally wrong” for secular artistes to perform in churches.

“It is 100 per cent wrong for a church leader or a church denomination to bring a secular artiste to minister in church; what we have is an altar not a stage”, he told Punch Newspapers.

“You cannot take people to a place you have never been. As long as you are not a gospel musician, you are not anointed to minister on the altar of God as a singer.”

“It doesn’t matter whether you used to sing in the church or not,” the singer added.
