“The senate is talking balderdash” and “that is essential Buhari for you” | Our top 10 quotes from the past week

It was first MMM and then it was the Senate calling for the suspension and prosecution of the Secretary to the State Government, Babachir Lawal, who was then forced respond to the outcry, dismissing it all as balderdash. We dared to think the drama was over but were jolted to reality with this leaked audio recording that has Governor Wike encouraging electoral malpractice in the Rivers parliamentary rerun. Again, we were treated to another denial and dismissal; this time from the Rivers State government calling the recording false.

Let’s not summarise it all. Below are our top 10 quoted to remember from the past week:

  1. MMM Nigeria on Pause mode

The first thing we learnt on Tuesday was that MMM Nigeria’s operation is suffering due to “heavy workload” caused by the festive season as well as frenzy caused by the mass media, “[H]ence, on the basis of the above mentioned, from now on all confirmed Mavro will be frozen for a month.” –(MMM) Administration.

2. Of course, Nigerians reacted

And the best we got is this quote to remember from Elnathan John who said:

“If MMM Nigeria are as smart as I think they are, this is not final. It will come back January, restore confidence, then crash big time.”

3. Babachir Lawal against the Nation

“The senate is talking balderdash; it has developed the habit of bring-him-down syndrome. Nigerians have decided that we should destroy our best. We should all destroy the promising and best among us by bringing people down without a cause. This is just how I saw it.” –Secretary to Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal in his response to the Senate report calling for his suspension and prosecution over his alleged involvement in the IDPs/PINE contracts scandal.

4. APC’s allegation following this leaked audio recording

“Going by the revelations from the leaked audio recordings, it is obvious that Governor Wike may have engaged in unwholesome conducts that might have compromised the integrity of the electoral process and undermined his office as the Chief Security Officer of a state.” – APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.

5. “Their publications are typically false, and the writers are professional hawkers of fiction. No one would have thought that the APC and its cowardly media allies would resort to an audio impersonation of Governor Nyesom Wike, using a voice changer technology. The voice changer technology is often used by teenagers especially in South Korea and Japan to launch innocent technological pranks at each other, mainly for laughs. The use of such a technology to blackmail a governor is a new criminal low for the APC, a party already widely discredited for its addiction to falsehood. The APC and Saharareporters are inmates in the prison of their own lies. We reject the latest blackmail by the APC.” –a statement in response to the damning audio evidence released by the Rivers State Government reads.

From the Presidency this week:

6. We can be sure no one from the United Nations sought the Presidency’s permission before the Minister of Environment, Mrs Amina Mohammed was made Deputy Secretary-General because after the rumours started on Sunday, here’s what the President’s senior media aide quickly said:

“There is a lot of exuberance on the net concerning a UN job for Mrs. Amina Mohammed. She remains our Minister of Environment. If there is anything on this that is released officially, we will let Nigerians know.” – Garba Shehu.

7. “By her appointment, Nigeria has been honoured” – President Muhammadu Buhari’s reaction to the confirmation of her appointment.

8. “This should be treated as private. His family and personal aides put the money together to foot the bill. No government money in invitation cards, souvenirs or Aso-Ebi. That’s essential Buhari for you!!” – Mr. Garba Shehu explaining to Nigerians how the wedding between Zahra Buhari and Ahmed Indimi was funded.

9. In the never-ending drama, that is life for the Kardashians …

“When I get married 7-17-17, I will just trademark it then … But f*** it … I’m not going to ask Kris … Is it easier when I’m married?” – Blac Chyna’s hacked messages reveal her embarrassingly shocking plans to leave Rob Kardashian a year after their marriage but the worst is that she’s already left their home.

10. And because this is not only very true of the presidential wedding

It’s possibly the truest thing anyone has uttered all week.
