The Guardian reports that the ugly development started when the Master of Ceremony beckoned on the Senator to present his speech and make his donation before the arrival of the governor to the Kabba township stadium, venue of the event.

Shortly after his speech and donation of N3 million, as Melaye was stepping out of the podium heading towards his bulletproof Mercedes Jeep, the thugs began the attack.

Although the senator escaped, some of the thugs were arrested and taken away in a Prison vehicle even as security men resorted to using tear gas to control the rowdy situation.
