by Reuben Daba

On Wednesday in Lagos, an Ikeja High Court sentenced a serial motorcycle snatcher, Jamiu Rasaki, to 28 years imprisonment for a two count charge of conspiracy and robbery.

Rasaki was found guilty of each of the two count charge levelled against him. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison for each of the charges by the trial judge, Justice Habeeb Abiru.

The sentences are however expected to run concurrently, starting from October 27, 2009 when Rasaki, was arrested for the offence.

According to the prosecution, the convict was apprehended at 31 Road, House 3, Gowon Estate, Egbeda on October 27, 2009, while attempting to rob one Sunday Vandi of his Bajaj motorcycle.

The accused was not found guilty of the armed robbery charge, because, according to the judge, the prosecution failed to prove that charge beyond reasonable doubt.
