Well on the 6th, the first consequential roll out of the Global Gag rule was implemented and the US cut funding to the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA) citing that the Fund supports ‘coercive abortions and voluntary sterilizations’. This is happening when 20 million people are refugees, another 20 million at risk of famine, Phillipines is suffering from a national drug and pregnancy crisis and wars in the Middle East have put millions at risk.
The funding from the UNPFA is vital to ensuring that these people arent even more burdened with unwanted pregnancies through contraception in these trying period, especially as many of the women in these regions are at higher risk of rape.
Europe has promised to step in, we sincerely hope they do. The alternative is terrifying.
