Trump says Las Vegas shooter is “sick and demented”

President Trump says Stephen Paddock, the man responsible for the mass shooting in Las Vegas is sick and demented.

Trump made the assertion on Tuesday in a brief chat with reporters on the White House South Lawn ahead of his trip to Puerto Rico.

Trump, who praised the efforts of the Vegas police, said they have done an “incredible job,” noting that “what happened in Las Vegas is in many ways a miracle.”

President Trump branded the 64-year-old shooter as “a sick man, a demented man, a lot of problems I guess… we’re dealing with a very sick, sick individual,” he said.

• On the Puerto Rico criticism

Trump who had attacked both the media and critics for berating the Federal response in the wake of the category 4 Hurricane Maria disaster insisted that the government never gave Texas and Florida priority over Puerto Rico.

The President said, “We were just as good in Puerto Rico [as in Texas and Florida], but it was a much tougher situation. But I’ll tell you the first responders, FEMA, they’ve done an incredible job.” He also claimed even his critics, like San Juan’s mayor, are “coming around” to that view.

• Further actions

President Trump called for help from the Puerto Rico residents to complement governments effort. He said, “We need more help locally” from Puerto Rican residents, including truck drivers.
