Chinedu Nweke, a 32-year-old man has been arrested for beheading a woman, whose son raped his pregnant wife in Ebonyi.
Nweke was paraded before journalists on Thursday, 18 September, at the police headquarters in the state, for murdering Philomena Nwega, the 45-year-old mother of his wife’s rapist.
The suspect told journalists that he beheaded the woman to revenge the crime perpetrated by her son, adding that the rape led to the termination of his wife’s pregnancy.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Maigari Dikko, briefed journalists, saying that the community members alerted police about the incident, before the suspect was arrested.
He said, “On 6th of September, 2014, the suspect, Mr Chinedu Nweke, waylaid and cut off the head of Philomena Nwega, 45-yearold woman from the same village while she was returning from the farm.”
“According to the suspect, his motive was that the son of the deceased, Friday Nwega, raped his (suspect’s) wife sometimes ago. After committing the murder, the suspect threw the headless body into Ogbor stream in Amuda and buried the head in a nearby bush.”
Dikko also revealed that the body and head of the deceased had been recovered by the police.
