Politicians and political office holders in the south-south have praised Oyegun, describing him as a man of conviction who cannot be bought no matter the price.
They described the call for Oyegun’s resignation as ridiculous and unfortunate.
“All kinds of invectives have been hurled in the direction of the national chairman. Politicians behind this wicked agenda want to remain relevant in the political terrain,” they said in a statement.
In the statement issued in Port Harcourt and signed by the National Chairman of Politicians and Political Office Holders in the South-South (PPOHSS) on Monday, Julius Ikuru, the leaders said Oyegun had served the party well and needed to be commended by all well-meaning people in the country.
“Oyegun is an administrator of high repute, brilliance and excellence. He has dignity and integrity and he is a study in humility,” they said.
“Politicians must play politics not as a bellicose contest but as a sport which must produce a winner. They must set aside their differences and harness their energies to the task of development.
“Oyegun has elevated party leadership to new heights. He deserves national gratitude and should be celebrated” the statement added.
