Soyombo Ayomikun: PDP n wo le lo… bi awada bi ere [As PDP gradually goes into extinction…] (Poetry)

by Soyombo Ayomikun

Olusegun-Obasanjo

They called the shots, they crowned princes, none checked them. They merried, but then their walls were cracking, their foundations were getting weak. In a slow fade, they were fizzling away…

I watched

As baba danced

To the rhythm of mockery

Of Africa’s once

largest political party

With countless singing;

‘PDP n wo le lo

Bi awada bi ere’

Baba’s membership card

Got torn

Into meaningless shreds

As women danced

Men also swayed

To that chatter

Of mockery;

‘PDP n wo le lo

Bi awada bi ere’

Couldn’t but wonder

How a party once united

So compact

And so strong

Became an object

Of scorn

Became a party

Watching its card

Being dismembered

Amidst jubilation

As voices were raised singing;

‘PDP n wo le lo

Bi awada bi ere’

COMPLACENCY:

They had no

Meaningful opposition

They called the shots

They crowned princes

None checked them

They merried

But then their walls

Were cracking

Their foundations

Were getting weak,

In a slow fade

They were fizzling

Away…

Now they are being

Taunted by voices singing;

‘PDP n wo le lo

Bi awada bi ere’

CORRUPTION:

Criminals

Gained freedom

To roam the streets

To throw parties,

Stealing

Ceased to be

Corruption,

Job interviews killed countless

None got punished,

A king in the making (SLS)

Cried ‘foul’

Upon sensing money

Missing from our porous

National chest,

He got harassed

He got victimised…

Now they are being

Taunted by voices singing;

‘PDP n wo le lo

Bi awada bi ere’

TERRORISM:

Cities fell

To the blasts

Of bombs,

Families were wasted

Children were lost,

The nation

Daily got penetrated

While the king

Daily moved around

Condemning the acts

Of terror,

Terror failed to listen

To the condemnations

Of the Commander

Terror expected a bombardment

Terror longed

For decisive & offensive

Actions

And not flaccid

Reactions….

Suddenly the gear

Got changed drastically

A few days

To the general election

With a camp smelling

Defeat,

Suddenly the military

Realized Sambisa

Must be combed,

A battle not taken

To the enemies

In about 6 years

Suddenly became one

To be won in 6 weeks…

Nigerians hear

Nigerians see

Nigerians have

Functioning brains

The sudden acts may not cut it

Perhaps the damage

Is done already…

Now they have to deal with

The voices

That erupted singing

And some more voices

That may join the throng

To scream;

‘PDP n wo le lo

Bi awada bi ere’

PDP n wo le lo,bi awada bi ere-PDP’s gradually going into extinction,’like play like play!’

  1. Very nicely written. I’m usually apolitical but really, someone else should get a chance to show us what he/she can do. GEJ should take a seat
