Teenager arraigned in Lagos for stealing N765,000

A teenage boy was arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate court yesterday over allegations of burglary and theft.

Saheed Gafar, 19, appeared before the court sitting in Ikeja after he was said to have stolen a cash sum of N765,000.

Gafar is being charged with two counts for the offence.

Vanguard reports:

The police prosecutor, Iranus Nnamonu, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences sometime in July 2013 at 16, Fadara Street, Ogba in Ikeja area of Lagos.

He said Gafar broke and entered into the apartment of one Donatus Onyeagbara and stole N750,000 and tiles worth N10,500, all property of Onyeagbara.

Nnamonu said the offence contravened section 306 and punishable under section 285 of the Criminal Law ii Vol 44 Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

Earlier, the defendant had pleaded not guilty when the charge was read.

However, the magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to February 28, 2014.
