The group of gunmen apparently arrived at the party on foot, but then fled using “one or more” vehicles, according to the release. Some victims were transported to nearby hospitals by their families and friends, others by medical personnel, police said.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims, although they confirmed that one of the people shot was a 7-year-old boy, who is expected to recover. The identities of the shooters are currently unknown, although police said they believe their faces may have been captured by home-surveillance cameras in the surrounding area. An investigation into the shooting is underway.

Denise James, who was at the scene after the shooting, said the man who was fatally shot was her 29-year-old son-in-law, The Sacramento Bee reported.

“They came in the party and shot my son-in-law,” James, who added that her son-in-law had a young son, told the local newspaper. “They took him away too early.”
