An Oredo magistrate court sitting in Benin on Monday denied an 18-year-old boy who defiled a girl of six bail.
The boy, Nwafor Chikwador, committed the offence in July, 2013 in the apartment of the girl’s parent in Oredo area of Benin City.
Chikwador who has been on remand since October 18, after his first arraignment, was again ordered to be remanded in the prisons by the magistrate.
Magistrate Peter Osemota said he would only consider bail after hearing the evidence of the child and the IPO.
The counsel to the accused, Mr F. O. Ogun had applied for his client to be granted bail.
The bail application was opposed by the state counsel, Mrs Omosefe Wole-Ehinimowo, on the ground of the gravity of the offence.
She also argued that the bail be rejected based on the fact that offence seemed to be currently on the increase in the state and across the country, adding that she also opposed to the bail based on the strong evidence against the accused.
The matter was, however, adjourned to December 9, 2013 for further hearing.
