YNaija has just confirmed that the designer and entrepreneur known as Remi Lagos has died today in a United Kingdom hospital.
Real name Remi Osholake, her eponymous brand Remi Lagos – headquartered in Bode Thomas, Lagos – was in the forefront of the post-90s fashion revolution in Nigeria.
Her collection won her applause on the runway of the África Fashion Week, London in August this year.
Always dressed in black, Osholake, who turned 51 this year (and surprised friends by refusing to celebrate) has been battling uterine (womb) cancer for weeks now, discovered late, according to associates, and was moved to the Harley Street Clinic in London for medical attention.
“It was really bad,” a source who saw her during her illness confirmed to us this afternoon. She is said to have been undergoing chemotherapy at the time of her death.
Her friend, fashion retailer and boss of Bevista/Rivista also tweeted: “Remmy Lagos RIP. Please join me in praying for the repose of her soul. My darling Remmy was the best of human nature. So long dear.”
She is survived by one sister, Adetomi Osholake.
