Friday is not the best day of the week for nothing (as long as you don’t work on Saturdays).

School is over for the week. Work is over.

For once, you are in control again.

You can do anything you like and get away with it, because the next day is Saturday, not doze-till-you-hit-your-head-on-the-desk day.

So here are a few ways Lagosians like to spend their Friday nights:

1. Turn up: Nigerians love to party, and Friday night is one night a huge chunk of the world can all party in communion. Who wants to carry last?
2. Night vigil: This group has mostly mummies. Then there’s the group of husbands that their wives blackmail them into following them to Night of Wonders for Christians…And Tahajjud for Muslims. A huge part of the time spent is in thanking God for saving them from the Satanic hold of the turn up group. Praise the Lord!
3. Social Media: The social media folk are mostly larger than the first two. They spend all their data convincing themselves why group 1 are screwed and group 2 are self righteous. For some…
4. Books: They shut everything out and travel wherever the author (or scheme of work) take them.
5. Sleep: The biggest group, because all the carry-over sleep from the hectic week must be taken care of.
