Senate confirms all Buhari’s 43 minsterial nominees
The Senate on Tuesday confirmed all 43 ministerial nominees sent by President Muhammadu Buhari. The screening of the ministers began last Wednesday and ended today. One of the last three ministers to be screened on Tuesday was former information minister, Lai Mohammed.
Nigeria’s 2019 elections flawed, poorly managed – Civil Society Organisations
Civil society groups across Nigeria have released a report, detailing the failings of Nigeria’s 2019 general elections, and how the country can achieve credible elections in future.
The report released Tuesday in Abuja, under the aegis of the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, examined the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigerian government, the security agencies, as well as the political parties in the elections.
Shiites will now be treated as terrorists – IGP
Following the proscription of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria by a Federal High Court in Abuja last Friday, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the arrest of the members and their leaders nationwide.
He stated that the Shi’ites “will be treated like terrorists and enemies of state,” and prosecuted under the Terrorism Act, including anyone associating with them in any way that could advance their activities in the country.
Supreme Court affirms Ihedioha as PDP guber candidate
The Supreme Court on Tuesday affirmed Imo State governor, Emeka Ihedioha, as the authentic governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general election.
Tye apex Court dismissed a suit filed by Senator Sam Anyanwu, challenging the emergence of the Imo Governor as the PDP candidate.
Senate orders Obaseki to issue fresh proclamation
Senate on Tuesday ordered the governor of Edo Godwin Obaseki to issue a fresh proclamation for the inauguration of the state House of Assembly. Obaseki had previously on Tuesday said that he would not issue a fresh proclamation letter for the inauguration of the 7th Edo State House of Assembly.
