The Orderly Society Trust, an NGO aimed at different governance project, is kicking off debates for aspiring Local Government Chairmen and Ward Councilors. In a press statement issued by the Foluso Idumu, project coordinator for Orderly Society Trust, plans are in top gear to spar aspiring politicians seeking election into the Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos state in a televised debate.

“There are 15 contestants with a makeup of 12 candidates from the ACN platform, two from the PDP and one candidate from NCP. The candidates will be given an opportunity to publicly declare their developmental plan for Oshodi/Isolo and how they intend to complement the effort of the outgoing chairman, Hon. Hafeez Ipase Balogun,” Idumu’s statement reads.

Idumu further stressed that the sole aim of this initiative which is tagged ‘Making Local Governance Work for the Poor’, is to “ensure that the provision of basic amenities and social services which are the constitutional functions of the local governments reach the governed and alleviate poverty”. This, she believes, “can be achieved by closely monitoring local government activities and participating in governance at the local level.”
