The top 3 exciting ideas from Nigerians this year

Indians have created a low budget system to launch a rocket to the moon, the Chinese keep slaying the daylight out of global commerce, and America is bossing hard on everything else, save for Alhaji Putin.

While we might be discouraged about the limited participation of the Africa in global affairs, it is still important that we celebrate the little victories. These victories give us expression. They enable opportunities to help others and serve as seeds for someone else to pick up and do greater things.

The ideas below may not be revolutionary like time travel, but they are “exciting”, more so locally relevant, helpful, quite unique, and made in Nigeria.

1. Now We Give

So this is it: Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, and Larry Page, Google CEO want to build you a website, FOR FREE. The only condition you must meet is that you must give up only N30,000 (Thirty thousand Naira) to Charity.

Actually, neither Mark nor Larry that will build the website, it is one of biggest Developer Institutes in the world, Andela. And on this project, they are partnering with GigaLayer, one of Nigeria’s top Server Hosting Providers to make this happen.

Visit nowwegive.org for more info.

2. BuhariMeter

One thing that stood out in this year’s elections was the optimal use of technology. Everything from direct information to fact checking, and even poll activities duly relied on technology.

And it is not stopping there. BudgIT, Osiwa and some other civil societies have combined efforts to track the promises and progress of the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and will be presented timely to everyone.

3. Jekalo [insert jekalo.com]

unnamed-2

Jekalo is a Yoruba word for “Let’s go”. It is a carpooling service that allows you share your ride, or join a ride with other people going your route.

All you need do is log on to their website, sign up with your Facebook account, and you’re on your way to meet your life partner. Sorry, ride partner.

Isn’t this just exciting?!!
