When Toke Makinwa appeared on the cover of Mode Men’s February issue, she was described as a rising star from the world of TV/Radio.

She was definitely striking and already gaining popularity in media circles but no one could actually call it, fame that is… well because unlike the other talents featured on the same cover like designer Ugonna Omeruo of House of Nwocha, and musician Seyi Shay, Makinwa’s skill as a presenter wasn’t yet acknowledged as having A-list potential.

But in March 2013, reports emerged that she was back with boyfriend of 11 years. “Yes, we are back together… He’s a great guy. I never get to appreciate him as much as I want to and I look at my life and I look at where I am today and even the bad stuff we went through and the craziness we went though. It helped to shape me into the woman that I am today. We’ve been together for about 11 years,” the on air personality was quoted as saying in an interview published online.

Soon afterwards, the two became inseparable especially on the red carpet. Wherever Makinwa went, the handsome and delectable Maje Ayida was right by her side, they were the IT couple and naturally people started paying more attention.

Makinwa, the presenter on popular urban radio station Rhythm 93.7 who co-anchors ‘The Morning Drive’ launched her blog late last year sharing her opinion on matters of the heart. Her candid yet hilarious approach to topics ranging from “The Mind of a Woman” to  “Why Are Men Morons?” and “He’s Never Going To Marry You” made her an instant internet hit with her vlog. “Some people think my life is interesting and I do too, oh yeah it’s my life. So I hereby welcome you to my world. This blog is a platform to share my life with you, express my thoughts, introduce you to my work and of course to get to know you all a little better,” she was quoted as saying.

Next follows a series of self-indulgent photo shoots released on blogs and social media sites and an endless appearance at red carpet events, series of appearances on our TV screen, fashion styles in the pages of magazines. It began to seem an event couldn’t go on without this gorgeous fashionista on the guest list and then there were her famous twitter banter with one celeb or fan.

Despite the drama, her career kept on soaring. Mid this year, she was named Lipton Tea’s brand ambassador alongside Darey, Dan Foster and Osas Ighodaro.

Just last week, Makinwa won the outstanding radio presenter of the year at the 2013 Nigerian Broadcasters Awards.

Although she’s confirmed she’s not split from Ayida, Makinwa is definitely still on her A game.

There are rumours that January next year, she will be on the cover on one of Nigeria foremost magazine covers.
