Though we shouldn’t speak ill of the dead, this is a totally dumb way to die (READ)

Teenagers are stubborn sometimes, it is part of their nature. They don’t enjoy being punished and will often let you know that they are not happy about the punishment that you are doling out. Sadly for one Pennsylvania family, their punishment for their teen daughter ended in tragedy, through no fault of their own.

Jessica Bacon was 14 years old. Her parents had grounded her. She wasn’t happy about it and decided to run away. The only problem? They lived at the top of a high building. Jessica decided that after she had been sent to her room, she was going to fashion a makeshift rope and try to rapel down the side of the building to freedom. She used shoelaces and an electrical wire from a heating unit to make the rope. She then climbed out of her window and clung to the rope.

Sadly the rope did not hold and Jessica fell eight stories onto the roof of a garage at the Marquis complex in King of Prussia. She passed away at the hospital later that day. A short investigation was done but all parental care protocols had been followed, there was nothing that the parents did wrong.

Jessica attended Upper Merion Middle School where she was in seventh grade. The principal of the school, Dr. Karen Gellar says that there are grief counselors on hand at the school for the students. It can be hard for young children to come to grips with the death of a classmate.

You never want your child mad at you as a parent, but they need to know that there are consequences for their actions. They sometimes rebel when being punished, just as Jessica did. All you can do is hope that they make the right choices.
