Nigeria is corrupt- everybody knows this. But perhaps as Nigerians – the masses- we are yet to own our corruption, being more comfortable pointing fingers at the seat of power, Abuja, those politicians, anyone except us.
Yet, everyday, we fork out a few naira to the human banks that stand on the road, ready to bleed us dry or send us to the great beyond in a hand basket. Not to mention those who sit in offices, prepared to collect their token or frustrate the living daylights out of fellow countrymen.
Herein lies our dilemma: To give or not to give (which roughly translates to life or death in most cases).
Well, this lady decided to stand for her rights and the unbelievable happened. Do see below:
Shoutout to all my Nigerian ladies who know their rights… Thread.

This immigration officer stamped my new passport at the MMIA. He then told me point blank that "You have to bless the passport".

We all know what that means. Me that I paid N60k to reissue my passport. I want to board a flight and this one wanted to collect money.

I had to keep my cool, remembering what happened to me just a few days ago in the hands of our so called security officials.

I told him "Oga, God bless you". He held on to my passport and started attending to the next person. I was determined not to drop a kobo.

Not today, satan. Not today. I was ready to stay there until they called my flight. And then it started.

One lady that was like three desks from where I was shouted "My friend, give me my passport jo". We all froze.

"I said give me my passport. Why must I give you money? For what? Do I owe you?" The Oga quickly released mine. Sharply, I collected it.

That was how commotion started there. A couple of immigration officers joined them. The lady kept shouting that she won't drop a dime.

I overheard one lady immigration officer say nobody asked her for money. Then the lady asked her why her colleague held on to her passport.

Somehow somehow, they gave her back her passport. Hehe. God bless her real good wherever she is. She didn't pay. And I didn't pay.
