A photo of Ivanka Trump taking her daddy’s place at the table of world leaders at the Group of 20 summit in Hamburg sparked outrage among Americans on Twitter. Popular opinion termed it an “insult” an to other world leaders and one more evidence of Trump’s nepotism.
According to a Trump spokesman who spoke to Washington Post, Ivanka “briefly joined the main table when the President had to step out.”
Ivanka took her dad’s seat briefly on Saturday at a working session on “Partnership with Africa, Migration and Health.”
The backlash on Twitter was swift:
Unelected hypocrite
Ivanka Trump, unelected, unqualified, daughter-in-chief, is representing the US at the G20 summit next to May, Xi, Merkel. Photo @LanaLukash pic.twitter.com/fvs0EMy8z7

how the hell is this acceptable?
— Tanya (@DutchDelights13) July 8, 2017
It's not. I would expect the actual leaders to ignore her.
— Helen Noble (@BoobPunchTina) July 8, 2017
I hope so. Wish Merkel would just ask for her credentials and if none send her out!

Who voted for her?
Ivanka Trump sitting in at G20 instead of her father is breathtakingly insane. She designs shoes… #G20

Why the hell is Ivanka Trump sitting in for daddy at G20 meetings?! What are her qualifications? Who voted for her?
— Charles M. Blow (@CharlesMBlow) July 8, 2017
How is she allowed at the G20? She's not even allowed at Nordstroms.

We didn't elect @IvankaTrump to anything.
We didn't elect @realDonaldTrump to anything either.#TrumpRussia #AMJoyhttps://t.co/1slf3JiY0P

This is an insult
The President of the #USA is meant to be in these talks, not one of his family. This undermines US credibility & insults global leaders #G20 https://t.co/FH4hqi8vSq

For those of you that are confused…
Unqualified Ivanka Trump sitting at the #G20 table with world leaders is NOT feminism, it's nepotism.— Angela Belcamino (@AngelaBelcamino) July 8, 2017
Ivanka fills in for her dad beside Xi Jinping. To me, it feels banana-republicky for the US to be represented by an inexperienced daughter. https://t.co/lDDlyCeFp9

Having Princess Ivanka represent US at G20 table a slap in face to other G20 leaders, other top admin officials, American people. Grotesque.

Oh shut up
If you are upset about Ivanka sitting in a chair one time but never said anything about Huma Abedin you can kindly shut your yap right now

If the left is so "outraged" about Ivanka sitting in for a few minutes, maybe they'd be happier if I sub in for a while??? LMK ?? #MAGA https://t.co/Tfr1u8HSF3

Better Ivanka than Trump
Given choice b/w Pres. Donald or Pres. Ivanka, I'd take her. After all, she's smart and eloquent and knows how to make champagne popsicles. https://t.co/54uZy3mUqM
