There is anger in the land, yes. The Federal Government’s fuel subsidy removal decision has been a bitter pill to swallow even too much to bear. We are enraged, justifiably so. Enough is finally enough!

While we protest, while we scream, while we threaten, while we tweet and while we regret, let us not descend to desperate lows. Some have been in a hurry to quip that anything has to be better than this, that indeed things have never been this bad. Everyone has their own remedy for this poison, some have even gone as far as suggesting the unthinkable.

A return to military rule???

Hold the phone…

Remember that we can protest, we can fight back, we can occupy only because we are in a democracy. Even amidst all the madness, it is the only thing we’ve got. It is worth fighting for and we should guard it with every drop of blood.

Watch this clip of the dark days of General Abacha’s reign and recall the lives lost, those who were forced on exile and those imprisoned for daring to speak out.

And see why we can say, it’s not the worst.

Afterall.
