A pregnant lady was killed while two others were injured in Lagos on Wednesday after an Iddo- bound train rammed into a J5 bus with number plate XE 899 FGG at a train crossing at Ikeja.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the white commercial bus, which was coming from Oshodi did not stop at the  railway crossing when the train was approaching.

Sources at the Railway Police Command said the accident was as a result of impatience of the commercial bus driver.

The commercial bus, which was coming from Oshodi, was said to be on its way to Enugu State when the incident occurred.

It was learnt that after the incident occurred, policemen from the command arrived at the scene and transferred the victims to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

A senior police officer at the command said:

“At about 6:45am on Wednesday, a J5 commercial bus had reached the train crossing around Ikeja when the train was coming.

“Instead of the commercial bus driver stopping, he tried to quickly beat the train but unfortunately, he wasn’t fast enough.

“One of the occupants of the vehicle was killed while the others were injured and have been transferred to LASUTH.”

The assistant director, Public Relations, Nigerian Railway Corporation, Mr. David Ndakotsu, confirmed the incident.
