TIFF 2016: Nigerian designers shine in Toronto thanks to Nollywood stars

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2016 is still on and Nollywood stars have been dazzling in very memorable fashion ensembles since the festival kicked off.

What we do notice is that the ladies have been rocking outfits strictly made by Nigerian designers.

In our view, this year’s spotlight is not only on Nollywood but on Nigeria’s successful fashion industry and we hope the world is paying attention.

All of them are our favourites but we have curated the most awe-inspiring looks for you.

Omoni Oboli stepped out on the streets of Toronto in this multi-fabric dress by Ayo Van Elmar. This one is from the designer’s Helen Gina Pradersen line.

Omoni has been seen rocking various designs from Ayo Van Elmar in the past so we’re not surprised she took the love to Toronto. Omoni pairs it with red cut-out sandals and a nude side bag.

Her OmoniCurls sits pretty atop the piece.

At the world premiere of the movie, The Wedding Party, where she plays the lead role, Adesua Etomi shone so bright in this yellow dress by Nigerian womenswear brand, Tubo.

A foreign brand couldn’t have done it any better. Adesua opted for a dark lip colour and eye makeup and yes, the braids worked.

Adesua Etomi shared this lovely photo and we can’t stop gushing over how sexy she looks in this white Wanger Ayu number.

She is on the long list of Nigerian celebrities who have chosen Wanger Ayu time and again because the designs are usually made to match each wearer’s personality.

Rita Dominic is chic in this print shift dress by emerging womenswear designer, Elvira Jude. She chose this look for her media rounds for the movie ’76 at the festival.

We like how she pairs the look with her nerd glasses and the print mules are to die for, by the way.

Genevieve or Slaynevieve? Call her whichever but this superstar stuns in this award-deserving outfit by Maki Oh.

We’re not surprised at all by this perfect look, Maki Oh has dressed top personalities like Michelle Obama, Lupita N’yongo and was featured on Beyonce’s Lemonade visual album.

Genevieve Nnaji completes this look with a gorgeous ponytail hairdo and she nailed it.
