Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke has called on all defected members of the Peoples Democratic Party to return to the party for the purpose of unity and continuity.

Imoke made the call on Thursday in Calabar at the inauguration of the Cross River PDP campaign team for the 2015 general elections.

Those who defected from the party after the last primaries included Imoke’s former Chief of Staff, Dr. Alex Egbona; the senator representing Cross River South, Senator Bassey Otu; a former Commissioner for Environment,  Dr. Sandy; a former Bakassi caucus chairman of PDP,  Mr. Domnick Edem, among others, who joined the Labour Party.

Ahead of the February elections, Professor Wole Soyinka has denied endorsing any presidential and governorship candidate.

Consequently, the Nobel Laureate warned the peddlers of his supposed endorsement, “to be less gullible, and avoid becoming cheap conduits for the deception industry.”

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday said the nation would soon see the back of the Boko Haram insurgents as the military was now better equipped to take on the terrorist group.
He promised that all territories captured by the violent sect would soon be liberated.
Jonathan, who paid a surprise visit to Maiduguri, the capital of the troubled Borno State, gave this assurance during a visit to the victims of the Baga attacks, who are accommodated at an Internally Displaced Persons camp at the Teachers Village, MaiduguriHe said briefings from the service chiefs showed that the 10 local government areas under Boko Haram’s control would soon be recaptured by the Nigerian military.

“Let me assure you that we will soon take over all the areas. From the briefings I have received from the service chiefs, I assure you we will take over the towns and communities,” the president said during the visit.

Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, Senator Bukola Saraki and ex-Sports minister, Bolaji Abdullahi, on Friday passed a damning verdict on President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

The trio accused the Peoples Democratic Party led government of impoverishing Nigerians.

They spoke in Ilorin, Kwara State, at presentation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for the 2015 elections in the state.

Abdullahi said Nigerians are more economically impoverished than six or seven years ago, adding that yet they claimed that “our economy is improving.”

President Goodluck Jonathan has just arrived in Maidugiri, the Borno State capital.

Maiduguri has been a hotbed of violence with the Boko Haram Islamic militants carrying out deadly attacks which has claimed the lives of thousand of people.

Accompanying the president is the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Vice Marshall Alex Badeh and the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki. Both were said to have arrived the airport in a separate aircraft
