Hon. Yakubu Dogara, representing Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa-Balewa Federal constituency of Bauchi State, has emerged Speaker of the House of Representatives.
He defeated his closest rival, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila by eight votes, polling 182 votes to Gbajabiamila’s 174 in very close contest Tuesday.
As part of efforts to reduce the cost of governance, Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, has reduced the number of commissioners from 24 to 13.
This was against the 24 that were appointed by the previous government of the Peoples Democratic Party under former Governor Mukhtar Yero.
The governor added that he would place strict limits on the number of aides that the 13 commissioners could recruit in the discharge of their duties.
