EFCC confirms killing of its official, shuns unkind comments

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) released a statement confirming the death of its official, who was shot dead during an operation that took place at midnight in Anambra State.
The deceased officer, identified as Aminu Salisu, was an assistant superintendent officer who was killed by Joshua Ikechukwu, whom the EFCC believes to be an internet fraudster.
A public statement made by an EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, claimed that the officer was on a legitimate operation and the culprit, who had seen the officials at his doorstep, had refused to open his door when they politely requested entrance at midnight.
“Defying all the introduction and physical sighting of the investigators, he resorted to firing shots at them and killed Salisu in the process and wounded another officer detailed to conduct a search in his apartment.”
Dangote Refinery defends why it increased petrol price

The Dangote Refinery stated that the recent increase in its ex-depot petrol price from ₦899 to ₦950 and then to ₦955/litre was due to a 15% rise in the international price of crude oil.
The refinery has set a retail price of ₦970/litre across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to be implemented by its partners, including Ardova, Heyden, and MRS Holdings.
According to the management, Dangote Refinery will publish the weekly ex-depot, ex-vessel, and pump prices to promote transparency and good governance while preventing consumer exploitation.
NIS alerts Nigerians on new human trafficking ring

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has alerted Nigerians of a new human trafficking ring, known as “ACHAD Life Mission Internat,” which is very active in Kaduna State.
According to reports from the NIS, the sect’s headquarters is located in Kaduna, while its leader, Mr. Yokana, resides in Jos, Plateau State. The NIS has connected the sect to human trafficking and child separation and advised that it has been hiring members both within and outside Nigeria.
“The intelligence reports that the sect has its headquarters in Kaduna, while its leader, one Mr. Yokana, lives in Jos, Plateau State. It further notes that the sect neither believes in Islam nor Christianity but preaches the restoration of the African tradition and support to humanity,” the report reads in part.
SSANIP plan to go on three-day strike over career stagnation

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnic (SSANIP) has announced that it will embark on a three-day warning strike due to a threat to the career growth of its members.
The announcement was publicised in a letter delivered to the Ministry of Labour, the National Board for Technical Education and the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.
The strike is scheduled to begin from January 22 to 24, 2025, as this action “has become imperative to further emphasise our position concerning the ongoing plot by certain stakeholders to unjustly deprive Non-Teaching Staff of Polytechnics and Similar Institutions of their rightful progression to the peak of their careers on CONTEDISS 15 on the ongoing redrafting of the Polytechnic Schemes of Service.”
INEC reveals why the 2023 presidential election results upload failed

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has explained the technical issue that hindered the uploading of presidential election results on the INEC Result Viewing (IREV) portal during the 2023 general elections.
INEC reported that the issue was caused by an unexpected system error while mapping presidential election results to the participating polling units.
“In a nutshell, the challenge of uploading the PU presidential election results on the IReV after the presidential and National Assembly elections on February 25 of 2023 was unique,” INEC claimed.
